Jonathon Porritt, CBE
Jonathon became a patron in 2008. He has an outstanding record as Britain’s best-known environmentalist. He was formerly Director of Friends of the Earth (1984-90) and, in 1996, he co-founded Forum for the Future, a charity devoted to sustainable development, of which he is Chair and Programme Director. In 2000, he was appointed by the Prime Minister as Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission, in which year he was awarded the CBE.
Jonathon wrote the Foreword to Compassion’s 2004 report, The Global Benefits of Eating Less Meat (
471.07KB) and appeared in our film Eat Less Meat – It’s Costing the Earth. He is a great advocate for joined-up policies, incorporating both environmental and animal welfare concerns.
