...the truth about live transport
“this truck is overloaded, on the bottom deck there are lambs lying down and being trodden on by others, they cannot move and some look to be in a bad way...”
Undercover investigator, Greece, 2011
Footage taken during our recent investigation into the export of EU farm animals to Turkey.
Warning: It features scenes of animal suffering and may upset some viewers.
Every day thousands of farm animals suffer horrendous conditions in transport lorries and billions more in factory farms. We are working hard to end this disregard for animal wellbeing, but there is still so much to do.
Our most recent investigations involving animals being transported in Greece and from the EU to Turkey revealed that the terrible mistreatment of animals remains rife throughout Europe. What we witnessed was nothing short of horrific:
- Animals crammed inside lorries where temperatures rose as high as a blistering 58˚c/136˚f
- An overpowering stench of ammonia from poorly ventilated lorries
- Animals so hungry they were forced to eat their filthy bedding
- Empty water tanks and animals so thirsty they were licking the bars of the trucks, desperate for any droplets of condensation
- Overcrowded sheep and lambs forced to lay on wet and dirty floors for hours
- False transportation log details recording inaccurate stopping times and dates
- Animals’ legs left dangerously hanging outside lorry ventilation slats
- Injured animals being forced onto trucks with sharp prods from metal rods.
Sadly, these are just examples of the many scenes of animal suffering our investigators have uncovered over the years.
Please help end the terrible suffering endured by millions of farm animals by making a donation today.
This footage was taken during our April 2011 investigation into the Greek sheep trade.

We are calling for the proper enforcement of existing laws on animal transport and for an 8-hour limit on all journey times for farm animals.
We urgently need your help to end the cruelty of long-distance transport, and stop factory farming for good. Please help us today with a donation, to ensure that we can continue to speak out for the animals who rely on our compassion.
