We’ve achieved changes in legislation that mean pigs in the UK are raised to higher standards – for instance, sow stall cages are now banned and many UK farmers now give their pigs straw bedding so they can express their natural ‘rooting’ behaviour. But 80% of the bacon sold in the UK comes from pigs raised abroad, where conditions are often nothing short of horrific.
