You can help to improve the welfare of calves reared for veal in a number of ways:
Top 3 ways to help
- Ask your local restaurants, delis and butchers to only use British veal or another higher welfare alternative. Look at our Calf life – wanted not wasted campaign for more information.
- Only buy British veal or another higher welfare alternative. Avoid imported veal. Find out more about the labels to look for when shopping for veal.
- Only buy milk and dairy products from producers that do not allow export of their male calves, such as Soil Association certified products and Tesco. Please note: at the moment no retailer can guarantee that male dairy calves are not shot at birth.
