deserve a little more compassion

What can I do?

You can help to improve the welfare of calves reared for veal in a number of ways:

Top 3 ways to help

  • Buy British or rosé (pink) veal. Don’t buy white veal
  • Ask in restaurants whether the veal they use is British or rosé veal
  • Buy milk and dairy products only from farms that do not sell their surplus male calves for export for veal production, such as Soil Association certified products

What else can be done?

  • Take part in our online campaign to help stop live export of calves
  • In the UK, avoid imported veal. The veal may have come from calves that were reared in conditions that would be illegal in the UK or that were transported long distances for rearing
  • Contact the manager of your local supermarket to ask them to stock only rosé veal from calves kept in extensive systems with straw, or in suckler herds
  • Download our Compassionate Shopping Guide
  • Donate to Compassion in World Farming to support our campaigns to end the production of white veal across Europe
