How can I help?

There are several ways that you can help improve the welfare of sheep.

Top 3 ways to help

• Buy lamb, mutton and dairy products that ensure sheep have access to pasture – buy organic or look for ‘grass fed’ or ‘access to pasture’ on the label
• Buy locally produced lamb and mutton. In the UK, eat British ‘light lamb’, from smaller mountain breeds, often exported on long continental journeys because of a lack of consumer demand
• Sign up to support the Handle with Care campaign to stop long distance transport of live animals

What else can be done?

• Ask the Australian Prime Minister to ensure the wool industry sticks to its commitment to bring an end to mulesing
• Avoid wool products from sheep that may have been subjected to mulesing, such as Merino wool. Find out whether clothes stores have banned the use of wool from mulesed sheep
• Speak to the manager of your local supermarket to encourage them to reduce tail-docking and castration of lambs
