Cooperative Food

UK

The Co-op is a well-known UK supermarket and convenience store. In 2008 the Co-op earned itself a Good Egg Award for going free-range on all shell eggs sold in store (including any branded eggs) and for committing to go cage-free on eggs used in own-brand products by 2010.

Previously we had awarded it a Commendation for having a free-range policy on own-label shell eggs only.

"We are delighted to be recognised again by CIWF for our commitment to animal welfare. Recognition should be given to the team who are instrumental in delivering this. In October 2006 we converted all Co-op Brand shell eggs to non-cage systems (free range and organic) but retained a branded caged egg offer. In March of 2007 we delisted the branded caged egg offer resulting in our stocking only free range or organically produced shell eggs."
