Quay Co-op

Republic of Ireland
34,000 eggs per year
126 hens per year

Located in the heart of Cork, the Quay Co-op is something of an institution. Founded in 1982 as a community project, it became famous as a base for the politics of the social movements of the 1980s. In recent years the Quay Co-op has re-invented itself as a worker's co-operative, running a successful vegetarian restaurant, organic food store and 'in-house' bakery using about 34,000 free-range and organic eggs a year.

"We only sell ethical eggs, these are either organic and free-range or just free-range. In our bakery and restaurant we use free-range but not organic eggs."
