Supporters Making a Difference
A legacy to Compassion in World Farming is a lasting gift to farm animals. And for one of Compassion’s trustees, Rosemary Marshall, leaving us this special gift is a natural choice.

Rosemary Marshall, trustee & legacy pledger
Rosemary Marshall has been championing farm animal welfare for over 20 years. Throughout the 1990s, she worked tirelessly with Compassion, manning information stalls, promoting farm animal welfare issues in the local press and radio, providing talks to schools and writing countless letters to MPs.
Rosemary’s passion, along with her keen sense of humour, makes her a natural campaigner:
“You don’t put pressure on people to change. All you do is present the facts and offer a little bit of encouragement. Whatever you do, don’t lose your temper!”
Rosemary’s increasing involvement representing Compassion at conferences and demonstrations culminated in her being appointed a trustee in 2003. It was a natural progression for her to leave a gift to Compassion in her Will.
“At about the age of 40, I thought perhaps I’m not going to live forever”, she laughs. “I wrote my will when I was about 45 or 50. By then you’ve got things you really care about – you want to make some gesture.”
She is continually amazed at the generosity of supporters who remember Compassion in their Will.
“People who haven’t had a lot of money during their lifetime really want to support this organisation.
“The last thing I shall do to contribute to this cause is to leave a legacy, safe in the knowledge that it will be put to the best possible use.”
What other supporters say
We are so grateful to all those who have remembered Compassion in World Farming in their Will. A few of these wonderful people give their reasons for supporting us in this very special way:
"I want to think your good work will continue even though I may not still be here."
Mrs P Phillips
"I have no dependants therefore I would like anything that’s left after I die to help the animals via Compassion in World Farming."
Mrs Gill Mitcham
"I am leaving a gift to Compassion in World Farming because I love farm animals and want to try and help relieve or improve their agonised lives."
Mrs Joyce Audric
"I am happy to know that after my death I can still help Compassion in World Farming in some way."
Ms Cynthia Reynolds
"I have been a supporter of Compassion in World Farming since 1969, and have also worked with animals as a land girl. I love the work that Peter and Anna Roberts started and hope that by leaving a bequest that work can carry on – and succeed!"
Mrs Pamela Jack
"I have supported Compassion in World Farming on and off since the 1980s and it seemed logical to leave a gift in my will to a charity whose work is of paramount importance to me."
Ms Eileen Slater
"I have been a supporter of Compassion in World Farming for many years and would like their good work to continue after I die."
Mrs Kathy Barley
"I will be able to leave you more money than I can presently donate in one sum. I will not need the money after I am gone!"
Miss Margaret Britton
"I am leaving a gift to Compassion in World Farming in my will because I believe factory farming is an appalling way to treat sentient creatures and your campaigns have improved the lives of thousands of farm animals."
Ms Kathleen Stephenson
