Sainsbury's

4th PLACE WINNER OF 'MOST IMPROVED SUPERMARKET' AND 'BEST VOLUME RETAILER' AWARDS

Out of all participating supermarkets, Sainsbury’s has made the most improvement in farm animal welfare since we conducted our last survey. It increased research spending on farm animal welfare and demonstrated its credentials with some major moves on animal welfare policy and continued development of its animal welfare standards.

As the highest scoring volume retailer (those supermarkets with significant market share by sales volume) Sainsbury’s also won the award for Best Volume Retailer.

It has become the first of the big four supermarkets to commit to going cage-free on all shell eggs in store by 2010, earning a Good Egg Award in March 2007. Through the supermarket survey it has also committed to going cage-free on all own label products containing egg by 2012.
