CIWF, The Good Egg Awards. Switch to cage-free eggs, Chichen and Hen Welfare.

Going cage-free

We want to help you go cage-free – that’s why we’re giving Good Egg Awards to companies who aren’t cage-free yet, but who can commit to phasing out eggs from caged hens by 2012.

Our current award winners know that going cage-free is best for business - it’s also best for millions of laying hens currently kept in battery cages across Europe.

Winning an award is also a great way of letting your customers know you’re taking animal welfare seriously as an ethical concern and as part of your corporate responsibility programme.

CIWF works with experts in the farming industry who are already identifying new and innovative ways to meet the demand for high-welfare produce such as free-range eggs. If supply chain issues are stopping you from going cage-free we might be able to help you.

Call our food policy unit now on +44 (0)1483 521969 to arrange a meeting to discuss where you are with egg sourcing at the moment and the possibilities for the future.

'Animal welfare is a priority for McDonald's and we first introduced free-range eggs to our menu 10 years ago. Initiatives such as the Good Egg Award recognise and reward progressive behaviour and demonstrate to both industry and customers that responsible actions can also make good business sense.' Matt Howe, Senior Vice President, McDonald's UK
