Leading British hospitality chain J D Wetherspoon and CIWF Good Egg Award winner is to go cage-free on the eggs used in all of its sauces by the end of 2008. The well-known pub chain's Food Development Manager, Jameson Robinson, said: 'As a company, we are committed to using and stocking only cage-free whole eggs for our menus.
'We are currently working closely with our suppliers to ensure that all supplied products are also manufactured using only cage-free eggs by the end of 2008. We are thrilled to receive a CIWF Good Egg award and believe that we are listening to our customers' needs and demonstrating ethical responsibility.'
CIWF was pleased that it could award J D Wetherspoon for its current policy of using free-range eggs on its menu, as well as a commitment to switching on its sauces.
Rowen West-Henzell, Food Policy Officer at CIWF said: 'J D Wetherspoon has shown that good food at reasonable prices does not have to come at the expense of animal welfare. We're really pleased that the Good Egg Awards has encouraged them to go that step further and switch on their sauces.'
