The Municipality of Verucchio in the Province of Rimini, Italy ensures that all meals in the region's nursery, primary and lower secondary schools use free-range organic eggs. They have enforced a law set by the region of Emilia Romagna that states school meals must be prepared with organic produce. While the law covers nursery and primary schools, Verucchio has extended this to lower secondary schools, making it a leader in Italy.
"The reasons which have led our municipality to the organic choice: First: better food quality, which means a better quality of children's health, and second, but not less important, the respect for the environment, which is as much about a better quality of life as the attention to animal welfare."
