13,000 hens per year

Andrew McCulloch accepts the Good Egg Award for SubwayThe SUBWAY chain is a leading food service operator famous for its 'submarine' sandwiches, founded in the US. Over the past two years it has doubled the number of its stores open in the UK & Ireland - with the total now standing at over 1100. It introduced a new breakfast menu in November 2007 using only free-range eggs in its omelettes and through the Good Egg Awards has committed to going free-range on all egg used in other products such as sauces.

"Since introducing our new breakfast programme in November 2007, we made a conscious decision during August 2007 to provide only free-range omelette eggs for the SUBWAY® stores in the UK & Republic of Ireland. Internally we are working with our suppliers to source free-range eggs for our other products that contain eggs, such as sauces."
Andrew McCulloch, Director of Operations UK & Europe
