Co-operative Food

The Co-op is a well-known UK community food retailer, operating 1659 food shops, with the aim of giving its customers good quality products.  Key within this is its focus and commitment to driving welfare standards forward.

CIWF is giving the Co-op a commendation for its policy of ensuring all of its own-brand shell eggs are laid by hens which are either free-range or organic.  Co-op brand eggs are sourced from British suppliers.  For eggs used in its own brand processed products Co-op is applying a phased approach moving to free-range eggs as part of its rebranding process.

Ian Burgess, Group Quality Assurance Manager said: ‘We are delighted to be recognised again by CIWF for our commitment to animal welfare.  Recognition should be given to the team who are instrumental in delivering this’.
