The Eden Project has become well-known in the UK as a centre for sustainability and all things green, as well as for its trademark biomes. The Eden Foundation carries out research in several areas including sustainable food and agriculture and visitors to the project can choose from a range of foods which are organic, local, healthy and ethical.
We wanted to give the Eden Project an award because of their prominence as a sustainability project and because they’ve incorporated animal welfare through sourcing cage-free eggs.

George Elworthy, Eden's Operations Director, said: ‘We were delighted to receive a Good Egg Award from Compassion in World Farming. The Eden Project is an educational charity that demonstrates and communicates ways of running a sustainable business. Our cafes and restaurants, each with a distinct flavour and story to tell, bring our visitors fresh, healthy, responsibly sourced food. It is a vital part of our mission working towards a sustainable future.’
‘We use eggs of an excellent quality and flavour, from flocks managed by local farmers on local farms. The farmers only buy hens, with life long passports, from reputable sources and rear them in grass fields and hen houses. Excellent farm management controls are enforced together with total commitment to the wellbeing of their livestock.’
