Food Policy
Our Food Policy Unit was set up in 2006 to take forward positive engagement work with the food industry.
It launched with the Good Egg Awards in March 2007 – a pioneering European initiative to celebrate companies for sourcing only cage-free eggs. We also conduct a detailed UK supermarket survey every two years to benchmark all major UK supermarkets on their farm animal welfare performance.
Positioned within the Research & Education Department we publish high-level scientific reports and are called upon by industry for technical and expert advice on farm animal welfare standards.
We also provide information to consumers – so they can make more informed choices when buying farm animal products. That’s why we’ve dedicated part of this website to consumers and aim to set up a dedicated Consumer Affairs Team.
