Professor Stephen Ellingson
Steve Ellingson is Professor and Chair of Sociology at Hamilton College, having previously taught at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and the University of Chicago, his alma mater. His research interests are the sociology of religion, sociology of culture, social movements and collective behavior. His current project is the rise of local food systems in central New York. His books include: To Care For Creation: The Emergence of the Religious Environmental Movement (University of Chicago Press, 2016) and The Megachurch and the Mainline: Remaking Religious Tradition in the Twenty-First Century (University of Chicago Press, 2007), which won the 2007 Distinguished Book Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. Ellingson has served as book review co-editor and associate editor of the American Journal of Sociology.
