Compassion in World Farming is the leading international farm animal welfare charity, campaigning to improve the lives of millions of farm animals through advocacy, lobbying for legislative change, and positive engagement with the global food industry. Our established Food Business programme aims to raise baseline standards for farm animals by securing commitments, ensuring compliance and facilitating implementation of higher welfare policies and practices. Our work is based on scientific evidence and best practice and as such we are recognised as the credible partner on farm animal welfare to the major food retailers, food service companies and manufacturers. The Food Business programme is increasingly global in its remit – through the supply chains of our partners, and through the expansion of the programme into the US and China.

We are looking for a proven relationship and project manager who will work to integrate higher farm animal welfare standards into the supply chains of leading food businesses in China (from both Chinese companies and global companies operating in China). The right candidate will be responsible for developing existing partnerships and establishing new ones with leading China food companies and also leading producers, in order to deliver higher farm animal welfare standards and food choices within the food sector. They will specifically promote support for key Compassion initiatives including the Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards, Producer Awards, the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare and a range of project work that comprises the Food Business Programme.

Passionate about humane, sustainable food, you will also have account or partnership management experience and be an excellent communicator. A strong understanding of the commercial sector is essential, and a track record of working with or for food businesses, particularly with a focus on Sustainability or Corporate Responsibility issues, is highly desirable. Knowledge of the technicalities of measuring and managing animal welfare is an advantage, but not essential. We are looking for a native Chinese speaker, or able to speak and write fluently, and who is able to live in China, ideally in Beijing.

This is a vital role within Compassion, helping to ensure farm animal welfare is adopted as part of a sustainable supply chain and incorporated in the corporate policies of the world’s leading food businesses. The role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a tangible impact for farm animal welfare within a dynamic team and influential organisation.

This role will ideally be based in Beijing, China and will be a combination of working in our Compassion in World Farming office in Beijing (or all office based) and home based (time of split/location to be agreed). Compassion in World Farming Beijing office is located in a riverside building, just 5 minutes walk from Xizhimen tube station by line 2,4 and 13, and with very convenient public transportation.

Extensive travel within China will be required and some travel to the Compassion in World Farming headquarters in Godalming, Surrey, UK will be expected in this role, particularly in the early stages for training. Compassion in World Farming headquarters are located in bright, modern offices; just 2 minutes walk from Godalming mainline station (45 minutes from London Waterloo).
