International Awareness Day: 14th June

On 14th June 2020, campaigners all over the world united for animals in the fifth annual Ban Live Exports: International Awareness Day.

To every single person who tweeted, shared selfies, created signs, and found so many other creative ways to raise awareness: thank you. You are bringing us closer to a world without cruel live exports.

This year's day of action came at a crucial moment in the battle to ban UK live exports. Compassion in World Farming is involved in Judicial Review proceedings against the Scottish Government over the export of unweaned calves - so we mobilised you to urge the Scottish Government to drop their opposition to the case.

Here's what we achieved, together:

  • Over 103,000 #BanLiveExports tweets in 36 countries, viewed 31 million times.
  • Over 32,600 emails to the Scottish Government (and counting!) demanding #JusticeForCalves - all sent in just two weeks.
  • Almost 9,000 tweets demanding #JusticeForCalves, including 3,100 to the Scottish Government and thousands more from campaigners spreading the word.
  • 3,400 sign-ups for the virtual Facebook event
  • 1,650 views of the live exports Q&A with vet and Compassion supporter Emma Milne.
  • More than 1,000 selfies with the calf filter on Facebook and Instagram, viewed nearly 40,000 times.
  • Over 1,000 downloads of the shareable content, including posters, images and videos.
  • High profile support from a whole host of Compassion heroes, including Peter Egan, Emma Milne, Deborah Meaden, Joanna Lumley, James Greenwood, Marc Abraham, Jerome Flynn, Kate Ford, Mike Beckingham, Carley Stenson and Liz Earle.
  • National media coverage of our Judicial Review in The Guardian, The Independent, The Sunday Times, Closer magazine, The London Economic and more, taking our message to millions of readers.

It's not too late to take a stand for calves - please, email the Scottish Government today to urge them to drop their defence of unlawful live calf exports.

Thank you for being part of the global movement to Ban Live Exports - together, we can bring an end to this barbaric trade.
