End long distance LIVE transport

Calf "loaded" onto ship
Each year, millions of live farm animals around the world are transported thousands of miles for slaughter, or to places where they will be fattened for slaughter.
This trade is a worldwide phenomenon. In North and South America, Australia and Europe, animals often have to endure journeys across vast distances before long voyages at sea to reach their final destination.
Welfare
Live animals, including calves, cattle, pigs, horses, sheep and goats are transported by road, rail, sea or air. They are often crammed into overcrowded vehicles with little or no food and water. This can cause them enormous suffering. The further they have to travel, the greater their suffering is likely to be.

Spread of Disease
In addition to the physical and psychological suffering endured by these animals, long distance transport also poses the very real risk of spreading infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth and classic swine fever.
What are we doing to end long distance transport?
- Our UK campaign focuses on the transport of calves to the EU
- The EU campaign focuses on lobbying the decision makers in the European Parliament to make and enforce animal welfare legislation
- The international campaign seeks to put animal welfare on the list of priorities of international bodies such as the World Animal Health Organisation (OIE) and the World Trade Organisation
