Unilever is the second largest food manufacturer in Europe and the global market leader in all the food categories in which it operates. Owning a 74% share of the UK's mayonnaise market, its brand Hellmann's is possibly the most well-known mayonnaise in the UK and Ireland. We're pleased to announce it will be free-range by summer 2008. Unilever also aims to be cage-free throughout Western Europe* in all Unilever brands of mayonnaise and dressings by 2012 - these brands include Hellmann's, Amora, Calve, Maille and Ligressa.

Paul Nevett receives a Good Egg Award for Hellman's

"We are delighted to receive this Good Egg Award from Compassion in World Farming for our Hellmann's range of mayonnaise. Our plans to move into free-range eggs started in 2006 as a result of listening to our consumers and hearing what was important to them. Eggs are a key component of Hellmann's mayonnaise and trying to source free-range eggs was quite challenging when you consider we sell 57 million jars in the UK. This process is now complete and from June all Hellmann's Mayonnaise on supermarket shelves will be made using free-range eggs. There will now be 200 000 more free-range chickens as a result of this move."
