2008 Award Winners - The National Trust

UK

500,000 eggs per year
1900 hens per year

Stuart Richards accepts the Good Egg Award for the National TrustThe National Trust is a well-known charity operating in England and Northern Ireland. It has 3.5 million members and 43,000 volunteers. More than 62 million people visit National Trust properties each year. The National Trust maintains and protects over 300 historic houses and gardens - as well as a vast amount of farmland. The National Trust helps and encourages farmers to manage their farms to high environmental, animal welfare and food safety standards. They have been given a Good Egg Award for using only free-range eggs in the food they make in their restaurants and cafes.

"We are proud that the half million eggs used by the National Trust each year are strictly free range and Freedom Food accredited, as we believe strongly in the humane treatment of chickens and the importance of free-range food. We are delighted that the Good Egg Awards has recognised the great progress the National Trust is making; not only in inspiring our members and visitors to think about the way we buy and consume our food, but also other major catering operations to bring about changes in the way they source their produce."
Stuart Richards, Head of Commercial Operations, The National Trust
