PETITION to Tesco:
"Improve the lives of millions of hens"
Tesco's policies are causing immense suffering to millions of chickens.
We must end this cruelty now by calling on the UK's largest supermarket to stop selling eggs from caged hens. Battery cages are inhumane, prevent hens from carrying out their natural behaviours and can cause extreme physical and psychological stress.
Sign the petition below, urging Tesco to end the sale of eggs from caged hens:
I, the undersigned, call on Tesco to stop selling eggs from caged hens.
Tesco policies mean over a million hens are confined in cages every year. M&S, Waitrose and the Co-op have already ended the sale of shell eggs from caged hens. Sainsbury's have committed to do so by 2010 and Morrisons is planning to go free-range on its own label shell eggs by 2010.
If Tesco does not change its policy on eggs soon, I will choose to shop elsewhere. As the leading UK retailer, Tesco should demonstrate it takes animal welfare seriously by switching to barn or free-range eggs.
