we campaign to end factory farming

From my perspective, as a keen supporter of Compassion in World Farming’s eat less meat campaign, simply projecting year on year increases in meat production because there is a demand for it out there is ecologically insane.

Stop factory farming for animals, people and planet

Factory farming is the biggest cause of animal suffering in the world today. Globally we rear around 60 billion animals a year, mostly in factory farms. Cheap meat conceals the real costs to animals, people and planet.

Intensive farming

Indoor calves, chickens and pigs - just three products of intensive farming

Health & Disease

Over-consumption of meat fuels the obesity crisis and increases risks of heart disease and certain cancers.

Environment

Waste from factory farms pollutes soil, rivers and seas.

Climate Change

Animal agriculture produces 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions from human activity – more than transport.

Feeding the World

60% of global maize and barley and 90% of soya are used for animal feed, while hundreds of millions of people go hungry.

Poverty

Intensive factory farming leads to rural unemployment and puts small farmers out of business.

Water scarcity. climate change and disease

Water scarcity, climate change and disease - just three impacts of rampant intensive farming

What you can do about it:

Eat with Compassion

Higher welfare animal products cause less animal suffering. Buying free range or organic will encourage higher welfare farming which poses fewer risks to animals, people and the planet. Eating less meat and dairy reduces the environmental impact of animal farming and can improve human health.
