CIWF QuickGuide: How to submit a complaint using Nueva Pescanova’s ‘Compliance Channel

IMPORTANT: Nueva Pescanova is preventing users from submitting a complaint by asking for a channel key. We will update this page when the complaint form is open again.

Follow the steps below to submit a complaint form to Nueva Pescanova Group.

While reading through the steps,  you can fill in the form at the same time.

Please note, since supporters have been submitting their complaints, Nueva Pescanova have added additional fields to the complaints form that seem confusing. For example, they now ask 3 times where you are submitting your complaint from. We believe this is to create a barrier against complaints, which demonstrates to us that your messages are getting through and making a difference!

Note: To remain anonymous, skip the first 3 boxes or only fill in your contact details.

Nueva Pescanova’s company website claims that it is committed to ‘maintaining biodiversity’, ‘protecting the ecosystem’ and ‘promoting the circular economy’. Yet its own environmental report for the farm at the Port of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, was considered insufficient by the Canary Islands Government due to concerns that the plans could:

  • Threaten local wildlife, including cetaceans (dolphins and porpoises) and turtles, through noise and water pollution due to its close. proximity to a Marine Protected Area (MPA).
  • Pose a public health risk by using seawater from the port which is not of a high enough quality to be used for human food production.
  • Cause pollution including CO2 emissions, odour concerns, and discharges that could significantly contribute to the already highly contaminated harbour waters.
  • Threaten a protected species of algae – cystoseria – which is present in the surroundings.

Furthermore, it is important to note that:

Octopuses are unique, intelligent, naturally solitary creatures who are not suited to the overcrowded conditions that are typical of factory farms. This would increase aggression and can ultimately lead to cannibalism. They are also carnivorous, meaning they need to be fed wild fish in captivity, an unsustainable practice that would put extra pressure on already overexploited fish populations.

I ask you to reconsider the plans to open an octopus farm due to the animal, environment and health concerns it poses.

Question 11: Are there material witnesses to the reported facts or other people inside or outside the Nueva Pescanova Group who can provide additional information, corroborate the allegations, or give more details on them? (MANDATORY)

Answer: NO

Question 12: Have these facts been previously reported or notified to any direct supervisor or manager, or to any member of the management of your Company or of the Nueva Pescanova Group? (MANDATORY)

Answer: NO

Question 13: Have any Complaints already been submitted through any other channels (judicial, administrative, police) or to any other public authority or entity? (MANDATORY)

Answer: NO
