Compassion’s new briefing stresses the need to reduce global meat consumption by 50% by 2050. This is necessary to halt the destruction of wildlife habitats and to stop runaway soil degradation and water pollution. A shift to less and better meat would reduce heart disease and certain cancers, make it more likely that we can the Paris climate targets and enable animals to be farmed extensively to high welfare standards.
