Compassion is launching its prestigious Good Pig Production Award in China. We hope that the certificate-based award will encourage Chinese producers to commit to higher welfare standards for pigs.

We were delighted to co-host a forum on animal welfare organised by the International Cooperation Committee of Animal Welfare (ICCAW) in China at the end of last year, where Compassion emphasised the importance of animal welfare in terms of food safety, food quality and the increasing consumer demand for higher animal welfare standards. This was followed by an official media launch for the Good Pig Production Award in February 2014.

In partnership with Compassion, ICCAW will be acting as Chinese administrators of the award. Compassion’s aim is for the Good Pig Production Award to create momentum in the pig industry, leading to brands applying for the Good Pig Award in China, in the future.

The first Good Pig Production Awards will be presented in China in October 2014.
