A new book co-edited by our Global CEO, Philip Lymbery and animal activist, Michel Vandenbosch, was launched today (25th November) entitled, Cultivated Meat to Secure Our Future: Hope for Animals, Food Security and the Environment.

Food for thought

The thought-provoking book explores the potential of cultivated meat in beating climate change and extinctions. It questions if cultivated meat – meat grown from stem-cells in a bioreactor – could help win the battle against climate change, extinction and ill-health.

Is meat for the chop?

The book, brings together an impressive group of experts who inform, inspire and debate if cultivated meat could be a game-changer, where we could see the future of conventional meat consumption significantly reduced.

Ultimately, it suggests that cultivated meat offers the promise of helping to transform our food system to one that is healthier, more humane and sustainable.

International respect

The book includes a collection of chapters by highly respected experts. Internationally respected contributors include Chase Purdy, author of Billion Dollar Burger; celebrated health author, Dr Michael Greger, and journalist and philosopher, Julian Baggini.

Significant acclaim has also been received from world-renowned animal activists including, Dr Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) and UN Messenger of Peace and Peter Singer, Professor of Bioethics, Princeton University who acknowledges the ‘impressive’ group of experts that both Philip Lymbery and Michel Vandenbosch have brought together.

Philip Lymbery said: “There is a growing urgency for humanity to find a new relationship with meat. We need world governments to urgently ensure that investment of public money moves away from supporting of factory-farmed meat from animals kept in conditions of utter deprivation. Instead, we need to see support alternative non-animal sources of protein such as cultivated meat from stem-cells grown in a bioreactor.”

Michel Vandenbosch, co-founder and president of animal welfare NGO, GAIA (Global Action in Interest of Animals) said: “This inspiring book sheds new light on the state-of-the-art achievements and challenges of cultivated meat. The future of meat is without any animal suffering. Cultivated meat gives hope for animals, food safety and our natural environment. The contribution it can make to all life on our planet, saving billions of animals, is one of the biggest wins in a changing world.”
