From Rome to New York City, this week (21 to 25 September) we have been busy advocating for farmed animal welfare, human health and the environment on the world stage.

We attended the Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems conference, a first of its kind event organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome.

One Health is a unifying approach that recognises that the health of animals, people and our planet are deeply connected. This event was a timely acknowledgement of the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health, which focused on financing and implementing policies that can better protect us all.

Dr Christopher Browne, our Global Head of Research and Policy, presented a new science-policy brief with the University of Edinburgh and the International Livestock Research Institute which outlined the essential role of animal welfare in the One Health approach.

Leading a panel discussion on finance, Deborah Tripley, our Global Director of Campaigns and Advocacy, said:

There is growing recognition that One Health is no longer optional. The challenges we face, from emerging diseases and antimicrobial resistance to biodiversity loss, food insecurity and climate change, cannot be addressed in isolation.

New York Climate Week

At New York Climate Week, our team joined conversations on regenerative agriculture, nitrogen reduction, methane, food policy, climate-friendly food systems, and sustainability while connecting with leaders from across the food and agriculture sectors.

Matthew Dominguez, our U.S. Executive Director, also joined Why Regenerative's Ag Policy Summit to discuss the role of labelling and transparency in building a more accountable food system.

UN General Assembly

As part of the 81st United Nations General Assembly High Level Week, Nicholas Ceolin, our Global Head of International Affairs, attended the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response. This was another opportunity to highlight the clear links between intensive animal agriculture and human health.
