Thanks to the generosity of Compassion's supporters our 'Cows Belong in Fields' campaign will now appear for another full month on 15 Lincolnshire buses, over the Christmas period.

A fantastic response

Back in October, we appealed to our supporters to raise enough funds for the first local bus ad campaign, encouraging the communities surrounding Nocton to oppose plans for a 'mega-dairy'.

We are delighted to report that due to the strength of public feeling against the mega-dairy, our appeal raised more than twice its target. This allowed us to take the unprecedented step of rolling out the campaign again; enabling more buses to carry the adverts for a further month.

"Running these adverts is Compassion's way of saying 'thank you' to our supporters and 'well done' to the local residents, as well as reminding them that the fight isn't over yet!"

Strong local objection

Hundreds of local residents objected to the initial mega-dairy plans, submitted earlier this year. Currently, Nocton Dairies has partly re-submitted its revised plans to North Kesteven District Council for a mega-dairy, in which nearly 4,000 cows will be housed indoors for most of their lives.

However, Nocton Dairies have stated that their intention is to ultimately make a second application to the District Council, to expand the number of cows kept on the property to 8,000.

If allowed, the proposed operation could have potentially disastrous consequences for animal welfare, the local environment and rural livelihoods in the area.

The opportunity to run this ad campaign again at such a key time as Christmas is invaluable, and we are very grateful to our supporters for making this possible.
