Thank you for your interest in taking action for farmed animals. Whilst the action you were looking for has now closed there is plenty more you can still do.
Read on to see the impact that caring people like you have made for animals and other actions you can take.
The journey so far
2010
Sainsbury's promised to stock only higher welfare chicken on their own brand label. They broke that promise.
Thank you to everyone who signed our open letter telling Sainsbury's what we think about their broken promise on chicken.
2018
We created a splash in the press by calling out Dairylea and Bernard Matthews products about their misleading labelling. These labels showed lush green fields and frolicking animals – despite the fact that, in reality, 70% of UK farm animals are reared in intensive systems. There’s no law requiring food labels to say how an animal has been raised.
Over 10,000 compassionate people like you emailed their MP to sign a proposed parliamentary Motion to introduce mandatory method of production labelling. As a result, over 100 MPs from across the parties signed the Early Day Motion.
2020
Thank you to all those who called on their MPs to support the call for honest labelling. Every person who took this action helped to raise vital awareness among MPs of the need for all meat and dairy labels to clearly state how the animal has been raised.
Following the Agriculture and Trade deal report and readings during Brexit, the Defra Minister announced that the Government would launch a consultation on labelling after the Brexit transition period.
2024
The UK Government has launched a public consultation on whether it should introduce mandatory food labelling for country of origin and method of production on chicken, pork and eggs. Thank you to over 15000 supporters who responded to Defra urging them to make honest labelling compulsory across all meat and dairy products sold in the UK.
