We’ll be hosting a powerful Farmers on the Frontline event, sharing stories from Brazilian farmers who have experienced the devastating impacts of climate change firsthand, and taking part in a series of discussions with policymakers, academics, and NGOs throughout the week.

On the edge of the Amazon

Taking place on the edge of the Amazon in the city of Belém, Brazil, this year’s unique location is a reminder of what’s at stake. The Amazon, a haven for biodiversity and a vital carbon sink, is under threat. Deforestation, driven in part by industrial animal agriculture, is destroying one of our greatest natural defences against global warming.

A critical moment for global climate goals

This year all countries are expected to submit new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) – their national plans for meeting the limit of 1.5°C global warming.

We’re here to urge governments to include measures to reduce emissions from industrial animal agriculture in their NDCs. The livestock industry is responsible for 18% of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions – and this is expected to grow – so meaningful climate action cannot be achieved without addressing it.
