Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Campaign
We believe factory farming is the biggest cause of animal suffering in the world today. At least 80% of the animals farmed in the EU each year are factory farmed.
Compassion in World Farming’s campaign to achieve Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform, is bringing attention to the shocking facts involved in farming within Europe.
Factory farming undermines food security, it can pollute the environment and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. These farming practices may also contribute to resource waste, human health threats and disease risk, and have a negative impact on biodiversity*. We will expose the cruelty of factory farming as well as catastrophic wider impacts of this filthy business on the planet and its precious resources.
Our campaign is focused on the proposed reforms to the CAP. The CAP costs £45billion (€55 billion) a year- that is over £8 per month from every EU citizen. Despite the European Commission’s stated intention to make the CAP greener, fairer and better it does almost nothing to move us towards more humane and sustainable farming.
We are campaigning to end factory farming and:
- Expose the shocking practices of factory farming in the EU and incite strong public condemnation
- Hold the Council and the Commission to account for decisions that go against public opinion and harm the environment
“We plan to provide policy makers and the wider public with the inescapable facts about EU factory farming. To make people realise the true nature and scale of the suffering caused by intensive farming in Europe. It’s vital that we grab this opportunity to change EU Agricultural Policy now, while we can still make a difference.”
Emma Slawinski,
Senior Campaigns Manager
Policy makers are discussing reforms to CAP right now. Their proposals are a backwards step for animal welfare. It is vital that we demand urgent changes to these proposals and get the CAP back on track.
